If you’re considering a move to Alberta, we want to help!

We know how hard it can be to make such a big decision, and we want you to know that we’re here for you. We know all about Alberta and its communities, so we’d love to share some great pieces of information with you to consider.

We know that moving from Ontario to Alberta is a big deal—you’re going to have to find a new place to live, learn about your new community, and get used to all the different things you’ll encounter there. That’s why we’ve put together this guide: it will help you understand what kind of lifestyle you can expect in Alberta and give you some tips for making the transition as smooth as possible.

1. Homes are much more affordable in Alberta than Ontario. Depending on what area you move to Alberta, you can typically get a lot more house for your money than you would in Ontario. In general, housing prices in the province are much lower than they are in Ontario, which means you’ll be able to buy a house much more quickly and save thousands of dollars in the process. Make sure you decide what things you would like to not only have in a home, but also in a community to help you narrow down your location (we recommend the beautiful city of Calgary).

2. There are plenty of large urban cities with all amenities similar to urban areas in Ontario, plenty of shopping, superstores, and services available to meet all your needs. You’ll enjoy the convenience of living in a city while still enjoying the peace and tranquility of a rural environment. Whether you want city life or country life, you’ll be sure to find it in Alberta.

3. There is so much for the ‘outdoor’ type of person or family, with an abundance of natural beauty in the mountains, lakes, forests, prairies, and badlands. The scenery is gorgeous and every area of Alberta has something to offer in terms of amazing landscapes. The activities are endless with boating, hiking, mountain biking, sightseeing, skiing and snowboarding, and so much more! In the warmer months, you can enjoy outdoor activities from sun up to sun down every day!

4. For the road trippers, there is so much to see and explore! Every city has something to offer. Take a short trip from Calgary to Banff and explore the breathtaking views, hike to see waterfalls or caves, enjoy the forests and mountains, and enjoy great food and great shopping. Banff Alberta in itself is an amazing place and an amazing experience. Everything is so close and accessible! If you enjoy traveling by car there are plenty of road trips you can take to enjoy the beauty of this province!

5. There are plenty of job opportunities to sustain a mortgage and help with living costs. Many newcomers to Alberta find jobs in their area of expertise right away, while others turn to government job boards or temp agencies to find work in the area. Whether you’re working part- or full-time, you’ll find plenty of employment opportunities to keep you busy and make your new life easier.

6. The culture in Alberta is that of folks who value hard work and a sense of community. There is a down-to-earth nature about Albertans and it feels a little slower pace than the hustle and bustle of Ontario’s major cities. There is a sense of community that is unique to each city and area in the province making it a home away from home for many people from all over the world. People here are very friendly and really make you feel welcome and appreciated!

7. The fact that you can afford a home here, lends to a better quality of life. With less strain on how you will afford your bills and living costs, this allows for more weekend trips or for more time spent with your family or friends, or even time to work on those long-forgotten hobbies. What would your life be like if you had less financial stress and a little more time for yourself or your family?

8. Famous places to visit: Lake Louise, Moraine Lake, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park, Athabaska Falls, Waterton Lakes National Park, Dinosaur National Park, Banff Hot Springs, West Edmonton Mall, Calgary Tower, Calgary Zoo, Banff Gondola and many more! Not to mention all the cities themselves offer plenty of things to see and do.

Moving from Ontario to Alberta can be an exciting experience, as you embrace this new adventure. It’s important to be informed about what to expect.
